Caterpillars is designed for 2 year olds and is based on the ground floor, enabling the children access to all areas of the EYFS curriculum:
– Sand and Water Play
– Drawing and Colouring
– Cutting and Sticking
– Painting and Printing
– Play Dough and Clay
– Model Making
All of these craft activities and more stimulate the imagination allowing children to be expressive as well as develop their co-ordination and fine motor skills.
In order to promote language and communication skills, self-confidence and imagination, there is an extensive role-play area which changes regularly from a kitchen to a grocer’s; or a hospital/vets to a travel agents, alongside a host of multi-cultural and cross-gender costumes. There are also a variety of musical instruments, and a cosy corner for a quiet reflection and story-telling.
Problem solving helps to develop an enquiring mind and a selection of table-top jigsaws to floor based puzzles enable children to explore and discover. There is also a construction area to promote hand-eye co-ordination, mathematical development and balancing skills.
