Butterflies is a group designed for 2-3 year olds and is based upstairs.
All these craft activities and more stimulate the imagination allowing children to be expressive as well as develop their co-ordination and fine motor skills.
In order to promote language and communication skills, self-confidence and imagination, there is an extensive role-play area which changes regularly from a kitchen to a grocer’s; or a hospital to a travel agents, alongside a host of multi-cultural and cross-gender costumes.
There are also a variety of musical instruments, and a cosy corner for quiet reflection and story-telling.
Problem solving helps to develop an enquiring mind and a selection of table-top jigsaws to floor based puzzles enable children to explore and discover. There is also a construction area to promote hand-eye co-ordination, mathematical development and balancing skills.
A self-contained classroom for the “rising 3’s” incorporating all aspects of the EYFS curriculum.
The term after a child’s third birthday, entitles them to a nursery education grant giving them ‘free’ time within the setting which is arranged by the nursery manager. Children approaching 3 years of age are integrated into our Butterflies Group 2 which has a specially designed classroom incorporating all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.
Staff encourage the children to become critical thinkers by engaging in a range of higher-level thinking skills such as reminding, elaborating, speculating and suggesting. Your child’s learning and development is planned around their individual needs and interests through on-going observational assessment. Each key person will provide a summary of your child’s progress every twelve weeks, giving you a clear insight into their current levels of development.
